Surgery Days

Surgery days run every week and session bookings are taken on a first come- first served basis. These sessions are intended to give people more ownership and direction over their musical development, and to encourage independent activity. A surgery session can last between 1 and 3 hours and allow people quality one-to-one tuition/support on any subject/issue they identify – this is flexible and could include musical tuition, recording/practice time, musical or personal mentoring or even assistance with college course applications. A surgery session could also be a useful follow up and logical next step for an individual who has shown an interest at an outreach session; it could be another taster session, or just an opportunity to have a chat about what we have on offer and to familiarise them with our venue.

Surgery sessions can be booked directly by young people, or on behalf of a young person by a supporting professional by calling Dan with the preferred time, and purpose of the session. People can (and are often encouraged to) attend independently but, as with all our services, we ask agencies to use their discression in assuring that young people are given adequate support to get the most out of the experience – this may mean accompanying them could essential, or indeed detremental to the outcome…

Where people are clearly making gains from these sessions we would encourage repeat/regular bookings. Where it is felt that the sessions are not being used productively we would direct that person to a more suitable element of Upfaders such as our open sessions.
